The project “Adult educator’s mission: give the learner wings” is prepared by the consortium of five adult learning institutions: Lithuanian Association of Adult Education (LSŠA), Kaunas Region Education Centre, Panevezys district Educational Centre, Life and Faith institute and Raseiniai district Education Helpdesk.

Project is prepared answering the requirements for the contemporary adult educator (andragog) which are described in the strategic documents EU and Lithuania regarding education policy. The first strategic goal of the State Education Strategy for 2013–2022 foresees the necessity to increase the motivation of teacher and lecturers by providing them opportunities for development, by widening cultural horizon, by finding more diverse pedagogical functions and promoting teachers’ and lecturers’ mobility.

Appropriate preparation of adult educators is discussed in the Program of Non-formal Education and Continuous Learning for 2016–2023. It warns regarding the threat that increasing needs of adult learning in Lithuania could face the lack of competent adult educators. It indicates that andragogical competences are very important for adult educators, they directly relate to the quality of adult learning.

The aim of the mobility provided by the Consortium is to increase the quality of teaching and learning of adult learners by increasing the competences of the staff of the members of Consortium in three areas:

  • Empowerment of adult learners and increasing their ability for self-learning
  • Methods and forms of teaching of adult learners with diverse learning needs, motivation and former learning experiences
  • Consulting on carrier development, life, further learning and providing professional assistance.

Those competences are highlighted in the strategic development documents of the members of the Consortium and of the LSŠA as the umbrella organization. Our goal is to gain as much as possible of the international experience and apply it for organizing adult education in Lithuania.

The mobility plan of the Consortium includes learning courses “Andragogical didactic’s and methodology”, “Creativity in the work of adult educator (andragog)”and “Creation of learning materials for distant and blended learning”. We plan to get necessary training’s in Germany, Denmark and Croatia.

We plan to have 3 mobilities during the project. The participants of each mobility will be 9 andragog’s (adult educators) and adult learning organizers. Totally we expect 27 mobility participants.
The project will strengthen the andragogical competence of the employees and managers of the members of the Consortium. This will also ensure the continuity of other activities currently carried out by the consortium: improvement of adult learning content, methods and training tools and quality assurance of adult learning.

For ensuring the sustainability of the results of mobilities we will develop at least one training
methodological material for the dissemination of the mobility results in Lithuania.

The project idea, implementation and result will be disseminated through the web-site of LSŠA and LSŠA Facebook, through web-sites and Facebooks of the Consortium partners and in local, regional and National media and EPALE platform. The participants of the mobility will share their experience in different adult education events. Active dissemination of results during and after the project will ensure long-term impact on the target group (andragog’s) and, through the provision of internationally enriched training services, will improve the quality of adult learning.
